February 25, 2021

When you use the network, have you ever picked up twisted-pair cables to study their outer sheath? If you do this, you may notice the various signs printed on the twisted pair wires. Correctly choose when network
Choosing a different type of twisted pair, or quickly locating network faults will be of great help.
Usually the twisted pair we use may have different product marks from different manufacturers, but generally include the following information:
1. Twisted pair type
2. NEC/UL fire test and rating
3. CSA fire test
4. Length flag
5. Production date
6. The manufacturer and product number of the twisted pair

Since there is no uniform standard for the marking of twisted-pair cables, not all twisted-pair cables will have the same marking. The following is
A symbol of a twisted pair, we use this as an example to illustrate the meaning of different symbols:
VAYA-C SYSTEIMAX 1061C+ 4/24AWG CM VERIFIED UL CAT5E 31086FEET 09745.0 METERS, these marks provide the following information about this twisted pair:
1. AVAYA-C SYSTEMIMAX: refers to the manufacturer of the twisted pair.
2. 1061C+: refers to the product number of the twisted pair
3. 4/24: It means that this twisted pair is composed of 4 pairs of 24 AWG wires. The diameter of copper cables is usually measured in AWG (American Wire Gauge) units. Generally, the smaller the AWG value, the larger the wire diameter. The twisted pairs we usually use are 24AWG.
4. CM: Refers to general-purpose communication cables. CM is one of the fire and smoke resistance grades in the NEC (National Electrical Code).
5. VERIFIED UL: indicates that the twisted pair meets UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc. Underwriters Laboratories) standard requirements. Founded in 1984, UL is a non-profit independent organization dedicated to product safety testing and certification.
6. CAT 5E: Refers to the twisted pair that has passed the UL test and reached the super category 5 standard. There are several types of twisted pair, such as category 3, category 4, category 5, category 5, category 6, category 6, category 7, and category 8.
7. 31086FEET 09745.0 unit of measurement: indicates the length of this twisted pair when it is produced. This mark is very useful when we buy twisted pair cables. It is obtained by subtracting the length and the length mark of the tail. One foot is equal to 0.3048 meters, and some twisted pairs use meters as the unit.

Let’s look at another twisted pair logo: AMP NETCONNECT ENCANCED CATEGORY 5 cable E138034 1300 24AWG UL, CMR/MPR or C UL, CMG/MPG certification UL, CAT 5 1347204FT 9853, except for the same logo as the first one, and also:
1. Enhanced category 5 cable: it also means that the twisted pair belongs to category 5 super;
2. E138034 1300: represents its product number;
3. CMR / MPR, CMG / MPG: indicates the type of twisted pair;
4. CUL: Indicates that the twisted pair also complies with Canadian standards;
5. 1347204FT: the length point of the twisted pair, FT is short in feet;
6. 9853: refers to the production date of the manufacturer, here is the 53rd week of 1998
